About Base64 to Image

This tool reverses Base64 encoding: it takes the text string, decodes the 4-characters-to-3-bytes mapping back into raw binary data, and reconstructs the original image bytes so they can be previewed and saved as a normal file again. Decoding doesn't add or remove any image quality — it's an exact mathematical inverse of the encoding process, so the resulting image is identical to whatever was encoded in the first place.

You'll typically use this when you have a Base64 string extracted from an API response, a database field, source code, or a data URL copied out of a stylesheet, and you need to actually see or save the image it represents rather than just look at a wall of text. It accepts either a full data URL (starting with data:image/...;base64,) or a raw Base64 string with no prefix.

The format of the decoded image depends entirely on what was originally encoded — decoding doesn't convert between image formats, it only reconstructs whatever bytes were there to begin with, so a Base64 string that started life as a WEBP file will decode back into a WEBP image.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you paste raw Base64 without a data: prefix, it's decoded assuming PNG.
