About Fuel Cost Calculator
km/l and mpg both measure distance covered per unit of fuel, so a higher number means better efficiency, while L/100km measures fuel used over a fixed distance, so a lower number means better efficiency — the two conventions run in opposite directions. Cost is worked out by converting the trip distance and chosen efficiency figure into the amount of fuel needed, then multiplying by the fuel price.
It's a practical way to budget for a road trip, compare the running cost of two vehicles with different efficiency ratings before buying, or decide whether it's worth topping up before a long drive versus waiting until a cheaper stop.
Real fuel consumption depends heavily on driving conditions — highway versus city driving, load, traffic, terrain and even tire pressure all shift it — so the result is an estimate based on the efficiency figure entered, not a guaranteed cost. Distance and efficiency each have their own unit selector, and the calculator converts between them automatically, so a trip entered in miles works fine against an efficiency figure given in km/l or L/100km — the only thing that matters is picking the unit that actually matches the number you typed.
