About WiFi QR Generator

A WiFi QR code doesn't store a picture of your router settings — it encodes a short structured text string in the format WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyNetwork;P:MyPassword;; where T is the security type (WPA, WEP or nopass for open networks), S is the network name, and P is the password. A hidden field (H:true;) is only added when you mark the network as hidden; for a visible network it's simply left out rather than written as false. Most phone cameras recognize this exact format natively and offer a one-tap "Join Network" prompt instead of just showing text, which is what makes WiFi QR codes so convenient compared to reading a password off a sticker.

This is the standard way to hand out WiFi access at a cafe, office, Airbnb, waiting room or home for guests, since nobody has to type a long, case-sensitive password character by character. It also avoids the awkwardness of saying a password aloud or leaving it written down in plain sight.

Keep in mind that the QR code only reflects the credentials at the moment you generated it — if you change your WiFi password or switch security type later, any previously printed codes stop working and need to be regenerated. Also double-check the security type matches your router exactly; selecting WPA when the network is actually open, or misspelling the network name, produces a code that fails silently on many devices instead of showing a clear error.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, scanning the code shows the network name and joins the device to the network, and on many phones the password is visible if the user checks the WiFi settings afterward. Only share it with people you want to have access.
