CSV to JSON

CSV files store tabular data as plain text rows separated by newlines, with values in each row separated by commas or another delimiter. To turn that into JSON, this tool takes the first row as the set of column headers, then builds one JSON object per remaining row, using each header as a key and the corresponding cell as its value.

This is useful whenever CSV data — exported from a spreadsheet, a database, or a legacy system — needs to be consumed by code that expects JSON, such as a JavaScript app, a REST API request body, or a test fixture. It saves writing a one-off parsing script for what is usually a quick, ad hoc conversion.

CSV parsing has some real subtlety: fields can be quoted to contain commas or embedded newlines, and quotes themselves can appear escaped inside a quoted field. This tool follows standard CSV quoting conventions when splitting rows into fields, but if your source data uses a non-comma delimiter or an unusual dialect, check the output carefully, since not every CSV variant is identical.
